Working from home can be a great thing. This type of occupation can help you to have a more flexible schedule and spend more time with your children and family. Not having a commute can also help you save on gas. If you are new to the work at home world it is important to learn some tricks of the trade so that you do not get scammed.

Pick a task that you want to do. Maybe freelance writing or medical transcription is of interest to you. Join a website or message board dedicated to freelance workers. Do research in the forums about which companies are reliable to take on freelance work with. You can also post questions if you find out about a new company.

Be careful when taking jobs off of Craigslist. Craigslist can be a great place to find work at home which pertain to graphic design, writing and more. See if the potential client has a reliable looking website or can provide you with a work contract. You should also do a Google search for the company’s name and see if any results come up. If a private individual wants work done, there is even more need to be careful. If it is your first time doing work for a person and it is a $200 project, tell the client that you require $100 upfront and the other $100 upon completion. A real scammer will run away because he or she will not want to part with $100.

Never, ever pay for the opportunity to do work for someone. Any legitimate employer should be paying you not vice versa.
